iSCSI SAN and Unitrends
Hi,
We currently are starting a virtualization project and one piece of hardware we purchased is an iSCSI SAN from HP called the P4000 (LeftHand) product. This device appears to support differential snapshots natively and I was wondering if the Untriends DPU can recognize such a feature on a SAN for backup purposes.
For example, if it knows to backup certain volumes or LUNs it can work with the SAN to just pull the snapshots for that volume.

Our general method for backing up SAN devices is to copy the data via CIFS (or in the near future, via NDMP) to the DPU. This generally does not provide API access to advanced features of the appliance such as snapshots, but if the appliances captures the snapshots in such a way that they are exposed to the filesystem via a share, it may be possible to work with this feature.
