ROBO Challenge
While the data and systems in your central offices are protected, you want to make sure that your remote or branch office has its data protected as well. However, the challenges seem endless and include:
- IT staffing: You have either no IT staff at your remote or branch office or that staff is extremely limited.
- WAN bandwidth: You can't afford a tremendous amount of WAN bandwidth and yet you have quite a bit of data to protect. Even worse, the WAN bandwidth you lease is being used for your day-to-day operations and can't be dedicated to only being used for data protection.
Unitrends Solution
The solutions that Unitrends brings to businesses with remote/branch offices are as follow:
- Unified monitoring and management: Our Rapid Recovery Console allows unified monitoring and management from a central location; our alert, SMTP e-mail, and SNMP systems allow integration with third-party systems and network management platforms. This means that your branch location can be managed and monitored from your central location.
- Edge data protection: Protection of notebooks, PCs, and workstations at the "edge" of the IT infrastructure. In smaller remote or branch offices, this can be the entire IT infrastructure.
- Server data protection: Protection of physical and virtual servers within the IT infrastructure. This may be used to avoid proprietary vendor lock-in of a single storage vendor or technology.
- D2D2D rotational archiving: Disk-to-disk-to-disk rotational archiving may be used for disaster recovery and to conserve WAN bandwidth in a multi-premise environment.
- D2D2T rotational archiving: Disk-to-disk-to-tape rotational archiving may be used for disaster recovery and to conserve WAN bandwidth in a multi-premise environment in a situation in which tapes are required by convention.
- Electronic vaulting: Electronic vaulting offers the lowest total cost of ownership in terms of disaster recovery and tends to conserve WAN bandwidth. Depending upon the WAN bandwidth available, electronic vaulting can be set up to electronically vault from your branch location to your main location or if more bandwidth is available a cross-vault can be created in which both locations serve as disaster recovery storage for the other site.

ROBO, Limited/No WAN
Not enough WAN bandwidth exists for electronic vaulting.
Unitrends offers:
- Unified monitoring and management
- Edge data protection
- Server data protection
- D2D2D rotational archiving
- D2D2T rotational archiving

ROBO, WAN Bandwidth Available
Enough WAN bandwidth exists for electronic vaulting.
Unitrends offers:
- Unified monitoring and management
- Edge data protection
- Server data protection
- D2D2D rotational archiving†
- D2D2T rotational archiving†
- Electronic vaulting

ROBO, More WAN Bandwidth
Enough WAN bandwidth exists for electronic cross-vaulting. Cross-vaulting requires more aggregate bandwidth.
Unitrends offers:
- Unified monitoring and management
- Edge data protection
- Server data protection
- D2D2D rotational archiving†
- D2D2T rotational archiving†
- Electronic cross-vaulting

† D2D2D and D2D2T rotational archiving may be used in vaulting and cross-vaulting to reduce the WAN transmission when there are large data sets and/or small amounts of available WAN bandwidth.
