Unitrends Beta Program
Unitrends offers its customers and its resellers the ability to participate in early reviews of upcoming features and functionality via our beta program. Active and future beta programs are listed to the right of this text.
The only requirement to being a participant in our beta programs is that you are are currently a customer (which means you've purchased an appliance and have an active support contract.)
The major features of our beta program include
- Gain a competitive edge by accessing and evaluating our latest feature offerings prior to general availability.
- Experience early hands-on learning with respect to these beta features.
- Provide feedback that will be used to shape the functionality of the feature.
- Work closely with Unitrends' technical staff.

Active Beta Programs
- A new Windows Server 2008 and Windows Server 2003 agent that has the ability to perform faster incremental (differential) backups when there are many unchanging small files (will be released in March)
- A cloud-based vaulting service called Vault2Cloud will be in beta during the first quarter (will be released in March)
Future Beta Programs
We're signing up beta customers for release 5. Release 5 includes
- A new VSS-based SQL agent which supports 32 and 64-bit installations of SQL Server 2005 and 2008 (included SQL Server 2008 R2)
- A new D2D2D (Disk-to-Disk-to Disk) archiving system which is fully managed and monitored from the RRC, including on-demand and scheduled backups, restores, media management, history and reporting
- Storage-based deduplication capabilities (customer must have an appliance sold after March 4, 2009), where every file transferred from a client is hashed such that the same data is not stored multiple times
- Virtualization Protector –A VMware agent using the vStorage API set to protect guest virtual machines running on:
- ESX 3.5
- ESXi 3.5 (licensed)
- ESX 4.0
- ESXi 4.0 (licensed)
- vCenter servers managing all of the above ESX versions
