iseGrid is the underlying technology that allows inter-appliance scalability. Sounds fancy, huh? It really is simple. iseGrid allows our customers to buy a single appliance that meets their needs now without having to worry that they will outgrow the appliance as their information technology infrastructure grows. This is what we refer to as scalability - the ability for multiple appliances to work together as a single system.

The technical term for this is RAIN (Redundant Array of Inexpensive Nodes) - although we put our own twist on our implementation of RAIN. Since our appliances already implement higher RAS (Reliability, Availability, and Serviceability) via RAID (Redundant Array of Inexpensive Disks - and don't worry, the acronyms are about to stop here) and other redundancy techniques, we allow customers to configure our appliances for redundancy (the same backup goes to multiple grid elements, i.e., multiple appliances within the grid) or for greater capacity (different backups go to different appliances) or some combination thereof.

Of course, regardless of the way that the appliances are used within the grid, our appliances allow themselves to be configured such that all may be monitored and managed using a "single pane of glass" web 2.0-based user interface. And this monitoring and management may be done within a single premise or among multiple premises.
