File Backup Policy Management in UniView
An organization’s data is no longer confined to on-premises servers but rather spread across remote employee devices, private clouds and public cloud platforms, like AWS and Azure. This highly distributed data makes data protection and management challenging for IT teams. Traditional methods fall short, as each source, from SaaS applications to physical data centers, requires a unique approach.
Many organizations turn to multiple solutions to safeguard their distributed data. However, this patchwork system increases management time and complexity. IT professionals are left juggling interfaces, credentials and configurations, which impacts productivity and efficiency.
That’s where Unitrends UniView comes in. Unitrends UniView is a free, SaaS-based, centralized management platform that provides a smarter, more streamlined way to protect and manage data across environments. Our centralized platform helps IT pros save time, prioritize issues, manage updates across appliances easily and reduce inefficiencies. To further enhance this experience, Unitrends has introduced file backup policy management to the platform, making data protection even more seamless and efficient.
Introducing file backup policy management
At Unitrends, we’re committed to delivering a best-in-class management experience in UniView. Earlier this year, we released backup policy creation for VMware, Hyper-V and Windows image-level assets. Our latest innovations make it easier than ever to configure a data protection policy for the assets you’re protecting at the file level. This simple workflow enables you to configure backup frequency and replication to the Unitrends Cloud (hot copy) or a third-party party cloud, such as Wasabi Cloud (cold copy), in a single operation.
Fig 1. From the Protect > Appliance Detail view, easily filter Assets (physical servers, virtual machines and applications registered to the appliance) to quickly identify those not covered by a backup policy. Select the assets for which you’d like to build a policy.
Fig 2. Use the Set Backup Policy scheduler to define backup frequency, schedule and preferred hot and/or cold copy cloud targets for backup copies. Hot backup copies are automatically created following each successful backup and replicated to the Unitrends Cloud.
Fig 3. For cold backup copies, define the cloud target, actions to take if storage thresholds are reached, retention on the target and the cold copy schedule.
Once policies are configured, your backup appliance applies the created schedule. Leverage BackupIQ intelligent alerts to set custom alert thresholds based on backup and/or replication status to be alerted to any issues that may arise.
