Five Signs that Your Backup Vendor Just Isn’t That Into You

Five Signs That Your Backup Vendor Just Isn't That Into You

It started off great. You were coyly looking around for a new backup solution. Your backup vendor came on strong. There was nothing that your backup vendor didn’t promise you if you would only sign on the dotted line. But since that time, all you’re hearing are crickets. You’re wondering – did they go out of town? Lose your number?

All too many times, IT professionals get caught up in an unrequited situation where their love just isn’t returned after cutting that check. All too often, these smart, funny, and devilishly handsome technologists think that their backup vendor is still in love with them but is just playing hard to get.

If you find yourself in this situation, we’ve taken the time to call out five sure-fire signs that you’re wasting your time chasing after this romance.

Number 1: You can’t get an install date. If you can’t get a “second date” after you’ve finally committed and paid the vendor, or if it takes you months, then you don’t need to read any further. Your backup vendor just isn’t that into you.

Number 2: You can’t get them on the telephone. If you paid for support and then find that you’re the only live person on the telephone when you call – or worse – if you find that you’re the only person who either speaks your language or knows that “recovery” isn’t something that is only done after a recession, then your backup vendor just isn’t that into you.

Number 3: When you send an e-mail or leave a voicemail…and get no response back. When you’re in a new relationship, you get a small thrill each time the person you’re interested in sends you a message. If you get no response, then your backup vendor seriously isn’t that into you.

Number 4: Every backup challenge you face is someone else’s fault. You know when you’re breaking up with someone and you pull the “it’s not you, it’s me” excuse? Well, if your backup vendor tells you “it’s not me, it’s someone else” when you have a problem, then your backup vendor absolutely isn’t that into you.

Number 5: Every time you add a feature or a new system, you feel a tug on your wallet. Any relationship means that there’s give and take – not just take. If you feel that you’re not getting any response from your backup vendor except when you want to add a feature or a new system to be protected, then your backup vendor – while interested in your coin – just isn’t that into you.
