Unitrends vision is simple
A world in which IT infrastructure is as reliable as the sunrise.
I noted yesterday that at the heart of Unitrends is our customer – the IT professional who must walk a tightrope or fear creating a future of downtime and missing data. How does that IT pro have the confidence to go forward each day? Particularly when a misstep can bring down a business? By being able to master time – by using backup to reduce risk and gain confidence as she moves forward into an uncertain future.
I’ve been working in technology for over 30 years, and I think it’s blindingly obvious that to IT professionals, complexity is the ultimate foe. Technological innovation in the last 30 years – heck, in the last 10 years – is stunning. And yet with each innovation comes a bit more complexity. Complexity leads to almost every ill IT professionals face. Loss of data. Planned downtime. Even worse – unplanned downtime. Manual tasks that sap IT pro productivity. Finger pointing among different vendors with no one taking responsibility for issues. Operational rigidity. IT professionals being overworked and underpaid.
Imagine that you were a native of Mars and you walked into the average data center. With fresh eyes, it resembles a Rube Goldberg contraption – a device that performs simple tasks in a convoluted indirect manner. From mechanical spinning media to redundant clusters of machines to phone trees of various third-party support personnel IT infrastructure appears to have evolved from intelligent design – but the intelligent designer was just plain evil. I often talk to IT managers who tell me how important backup and continuity is because of the mistakes IT professionals make. But we’ve designed IT infrastructure to make it so easy to make a mistake that frankly I’m amazed each day that companies don’t have more problems than they do today. It’s a tribute to the hard work and professionalism of the current generation of IT professionals that we don’t have more issues. But at Unitrends, we’d like to make our small dent in the world by making IT simpler and more reliable not just for the next generation – but for the current generation of system administrators, network administrators, storage administrators, virtual administrators, and all the other IT professionals “strapping it on” to do battle each day with our awkward, unreliable, machines.
Our vision at Unitrends is a world in which IT infrastructure is as reliable as the sunrise. In which IT professionals can have confidence in the reliability of their systems.
