What’s New in Windows 10 Build 9926?

As promised, Microsoft held a media event on January 21, during which Terry Myerson presented and demoed the newest features of Windows 10. You can watch the on-demand recording of the event here. I believe the most disruptive announcement surrounding this event is Microsoft’s plan to provide free upgrades to Windows 10 for existing customers running Window 7, Windows 8.1 and Windows Phone 8.1 client OSs. They do note, however, that certain hardware and software requirements apply to the free upgrade, which allows them to decide how selective they choose to be in providing support.

Some of the new features highlighted in Build 9926 include:

• Update options:

The simple interface for configuring slow or fast ring preview has merged with traditionally familiar Windows update settings screen.

• Cortana on the desktop:

• Project Spartan:

This release includes the first look at the new browser code-named Project Spartan. Highlights of Project Spartan include stylus or keyboard on-screen annotation, reading mode for webpage viewing with less clutter on the screen, and Cortana assistant integration.
