This compatibility and interoperability matrix provides information about operating systems, applications, and devices that are supported by Unitrends backup appliances and Unitrends Backup virtual appliances.

WINDOWS OPERATING SYSTEM NOTES
Service Packs Unitrends supports the most recent two Service Pack (SP) versions on all releases of Windows Server.
Open File Handling Open file handling is supported on all Windows operating systems that have that capability (Windows XP, Windows 2003, Vista, and Windows 2008, 2012/r2, 2016, 2019, 2022).
Multipoint Server and RDS User Profile Disks Multipoint server and RDS user profile disks are not supported.
1Only supports backup of windows native deduplciated volumes on 2012 server and higher in non-optimized mode, 2008 deduplication is not supported and must be disabled.

EXCHANGE APPLICATION NOTES
Active/Active Clustering Backup not supported in any version of Exchange.
1 - 2003 Standard EditionSupports up to two storage groups. Each database is limited to a maximum size of 16GB. Beginning with the release of Service Pack 2, the maximum database size is 75GB, but Exchange only supports 16GB by default.
2 - 2003 Enterprise Edition Allows a 16TB maximum database size, and supports up to 4 storage groups with 5 databases per storage group, for a total of 20 databases per server.
3 - Enterprise EditionsSupports clustering of up to 4 nodes when using Windows 2000 Server and up to 8 nodes with Windows Server 2003.
4 - 2007 Standard EditionSupports 5 databases in up to 5 storage groups. Supports LCR (Local Continuous Replication) and SCR (Standby Continuous Replication).
5 - 2007 Enterprise EditionThis is extended to 50 databases in up to 50 storage groups. Supports LCR (Local Continuous Replication), SCR (Standby Continuous Replication), SCC (Single Copy Clustering), and CCR (Clustered Continuous Replication).
6 - 2010 DAG (Database Availability Groups)SCC, CCR, LCR and site resiliency functionality SCR have been replaced by DAG. Provides database level high availability (as opposed to server level) and supports a number of copies of each database (number based on Exchange Edition) and flexible configuration (databases copies may be added / removed at will without requiring major server reconfiguration).
7 - 2010 Standard EditionSupports up to 5 databases. Each database is limited to a maximum size of 16 TB.
8 - 2010 Enterprise EditionSupports up to 100 databases. Each database is limited to a maximum size of 16 TB.

Supported Devices
All Unitrends appliances have at least one Ethernet connector. Standard NAS and SAN devices are supported by all releases of the Unitrends product roadmap.
Non-standard NAS and SAN devices may be attached to a Unitrends appliance; however, it is the responsibility of the reseller or customer that attaches such a device to insure correct operation via correct hardware configuration, software configuration, and software tool support. One such example of a non-standard NAS device are some of the SNAP devices that do not provide persistent connections; in order for these devices to be supported the reseller or customer must insure that the proper mapping call is made to ensure a persistent connection before the Unitrends appliance attempts to access that device.
