Leadership Team
R. Duncan McPherson › President and Chief Executive Officer
Duncan McPherson has more than 30 years experience as a successful software and information technology executive, with a history and passion for building, managing and transforming companies into market leaders. He joined Unitrends in January 2006, and served as its President and Chief Operating Officer before assuming the position of Chief Executive Officer in January 2007. McPherson also serves on Unitrends' Board of Directors.
Before joining Unitrends, McPherson had held top-level advisory and interim-executive positions at a number of firms within the information technology industry for the last 11 years. In these roles, he provided operational leadership, general CEO and management team coaching and support, strategy development and implementation, operational analysis and corporate development support. Previously, he spent more than 20 years in traditional operating positions, all with technology companies.
From 1986 to 1995, McPherson held various roles with Corbel & Co, a computer services and software firm specializing in the employee benefits industry. He ultimately served as President and Chief Executive Officer and a member of the Board of Directors, and helped successfully sell the company in 1993 to Broadway & Seymour, another software and services firm. For the next two years, McPherson continued to manage this business, as it became the most profitable and successful division of Broadway & Seymour, achieving 100 percent revenue growth and 150 percent profit growth during that period.
Before taking the helm at Corbel & Co, he held several Vice President positions, including both Sales and Marketing functional responsibilities and overall leadership of the company’s Employee Benefit Services division. McPherson began his career at ADP Network Services, Inc. in Ann Arbor, MI, eventually becoming Vice President of Financial Services, responsible for $25 million in revenue.
McPherson earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in computer science and psychology from Colgate University and a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Michigan.
Maria Ellison › Senior Vice President of Products and Services
Maria Ellison is responsible for Unitrends’ product and service functional areas: product architecture and management; software and hardware development; manufacturing; field installation; and customer support, training and documentation. Her team has full accountability for the user’s experience of Unitrends’ product line.
Prior to joining Unitrends, Ellison was Manager of Commercial Information Systems Project Management at BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina. Earlier, she served as Director of Engineering at SteelEye Technology, and led the team that developed and delivered that company’s flagship line of software products. Prior to SteelEye, Ms. Ellison held progressively more responsible development positions over a 14-year period with NCR Corporation.
She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science from Clemson University and graduated Magna Cum Laude.
Harold Schmoecker › Vice President – Western Region Sales
Harold Schmoecker is focused on growing Unitrends' sales efforts, partner relationships and field marketing efforts for the company's Western Region, including states from Ohio to Louisiana and all points west. He brings to Unitrends 20 years of technology sales and management experience.
Prior to joining Unitrends, Schmoecker spent four years at Toshiba American Information Systems, where he was part of a team chartered to develop and market a solution-based appliance business. He was responsible for major account sales, solution sales and business development for Toshiba's hardware appliance business. Earlier, he served as a territory manager for two years with Micron Electronics. Schmoecker has a long and successful track record working within the Value-Added Reseller channel throughout the United States, including responsibilities for individual sales, sales management, and branch management.
Schmoecker holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration and Computer Science from Grace College.
Jerry Gaillard › Vice President – Eastern Region Sales
Jerry Gaillard is a seasoned sales professional, committed to growing Unitrends' sales efforts, partner relationships and field marketing for the Eastern Region, comprised of New England, the Mid-Atlantic states, and the Southeast, as far west as Mississippi. With a solid track record of growing business channels and revenue streams, he brings to Unitrends more than 20 years of experience in the technology industry, including management of security and networking solutions.
Prior to joining Unitrends, Gaillard was Vice President of Channel Sales at Reflex Security, where he developed and implemented a successful channel program, which included expansion into the international markets. Gaillard also implemented an inside sales team that focused on demand creation. He has an in-depth, first-hand understanding of end-user sales and channel organizations and spent the first 13 years of his career in the network integration business, with nine of those years building and growing his own systems integration company, America Data Corporation.
Gaillard is a graduate of Clemson University, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration, and was a captain of the 1981 Clemson National Championship NCAA football team.
Tim Wallick › Chief Financial Officer
Tim Wallick has a broad financial and operational background that spans corporate acquisitions, tax and audit accounting, sales and manufacturing. His strong leadership experience within high-growth environments is complemented by his solid understanding of channel sales, manufacturing and inventory management.
Prior to joining Unitrends in March 2006, Wallick spent five years as CFO of an entrepreneurial company in the fastest-growing segment of the aftermarket automotive industry. Previously, he was at Sun-Sentinel, a major daily newspaper and a subsidiary of the Tribune Company, where he played a major role in a multi-million dollar acquisition, and led the Finance department of the acquired company. Wallick started his career in the tax and audit field working for Rachlin, Cohen and Holtz, the largest regional public accounting firm in Florida.
Wallick earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from Florida Atlantic University in 1996 and passed the CPA Exam in 1997.
